Hybrid Construction with Glulam and Steel
AJ Engineering & Construction Services Ltd recently selected SIHGA’s high-performance secret fixings for a unique hybrid construction project in Scotland. The new production hall, part of a larger site expansion, features a glulam frame combined with insulated panel cladding.
High-Performance Fixings for Demanding Connections
To ensure strong, discreet, and reliable connections between the glulam beams and steel elements, AJ Engineering used SIHGA HobaFix® Max fixings. These innovative connectors are engineered for high load-bearing capacity in multiple directions and allow for precise and flexible assembly – ideal for complex structural nodes involving timber and steel.
“The project specification was for glulam beam framework. The shoes for the beams and steel Warren trusses were fabricated in our Forres workshops. Our erecting squad are more used to using steel columns but the predrilled glulam combined with the SIHGA secret fixings for the 300 x 150 purlins proved an easy transition for them. I have to say the finished result – the combined glulam and steel – looks impressive.”
