Timber Cladding Fixings: SIHGA Systems Explained

Great timber façades don’t just rely on beautiful, high-quality timber, they also require smart fixing systems that allow for added ventilation, movement and long-term durability. SIHGA’s range of cladding fixing systems help installers create façades that perform both structurally, and aesthetically.

In this blog, we’ll discuss some of SIHGA’s cladding fixing systems that can assist you in creating stunning timber façades, all whilst saving on time and costs.

L-GoFix® A2 — Stainless steel screws for visible fixing

L-GoFix® screws are precision engineered for strong, reliable fastening in exterior timber applications. They’re made from A2 grade stainless steel, providing strong corrosion resistance, which is crucial when fixing timber externally. The thread and head are specially designed to improve grip and reduce splitting, often eliminating the need for pre-drilling, depending on timber density.

An excellent choice for façades and battens, these screws provide a neat, durable, visible fix where a secret fix isn’t required. They’re perfectly paired with KompeFix® ventilation strips for better overall performance.

L-GoFix® screws are also available in a black (SC9) coating, which can be used for aesthetic purposes when fixing dark or coated timbers.

What are the key features?

  • A2 grade stainless steel: Corrosion-resistant and ideal for exterior timber applications.
  • Reduced splitting, faster installation: Special thread and head design improves grip and often eliminates the need for pre-drilling (depending on timber density).
  • Neat visible finish: Perfect for façades and battens where a durable, clean visible fix is required.
  • Colour options available: Supplied in stainless steel or a black (SC9) coating for discreet fixing in dark or coated timber.

F-BohrFix® — Invisible and precise fastening

F-BohrFix® screws are designed specifically for the secret fixing of tongue and groove timber cladding profiles.

The screws have a unique shank design and a specialised self-drilling tip, which allows for fastening close to the edge of the board without splitting the timber – the overlapping tongue and groove board then conceals the 3.2mm screw head for a clean, hidden fixing.

What are the key features?

  • Designed for secret fixing: Specifically engineered for tongue and groove cladding for a true concealed fixing solution with no visible screw heads on the finished façade.
  • No splitting: Unique shank geometry and specialised self-drilling tip allows installation close to the board edge without pre-drilling or risking timber splitting.
  • Concealed 3.2 mm head: The slim screw head sits neatly within the tongue and groove board and is hidden by the overlapping board, ensuring a clean, invisible fixing.

FassadenClip® — Invisible secret fix system

FassadenClip® allows you to fix timber boards without any visible fixings on the cladding face, ideal for meeting contemporary aesthetics where visible screws would interrupt the look of the façade.

These patented clips fix from the back of the boards with two screws and maintain a set gap (5.5mm) from the substructure for ventilation. They’re suitable for rainscreen and square edge profiles, ranging from 57-95mm in width, with a minimum thickness of 19mm.

The design of the FassadenClip® means the reveal width is automatically set to 10mm, making installation quick and easy. FassadenClip® is ideal for modern designs and façades where clean lines matter. It helps to improve the façade’s durability, with improved ventilation and minimal disturbances to the surface of the cladding boards which is especially important when installing coated cladding.

What are the key features?

  • Completely hidden fixing: No visible screws on the cladding face for a clean, contemporary façade.
  • Built-in ventilation gap: Maintains a 5.5mm gap to the substructure to improve airflow and durability.
  • Automatic 10mm reveal: Ensures consistent spacing and faster, easier installation.
  • Profile versatility: Suitable for rainscreen and square-edge boards (57 to 95mm width, minimum 19mm thickness).

KompeFix® — Ventilation & structural wood protection

KompeFix® ventilation strips enhance the longevity and performance of timber façades and decking, by creating a gap between the timber elements. This allows the timber to dry completely between wetting cycles. The unique design also compensates for the natural movement of wood.

It offsets timber from the substructure or adjacent boards, allowing airflow that helps moisture evaporate quickly, which is crucial for minimizing rot and warping. Wood naturally moves with humidity, but the shape of KompeFix® helps accommodate this movement and maintains a stable gap over time. Better ventilation and movement compensation means boards last longer and fixings are less stressed.

KompeFix® is an economical way to protect boards and help façades age well. It’s available in 4.5m roll lengths and can be cut to size and screwed in place where needed.

What are the key features?

  • Improved ventilation: Offsets timber to promote airflow and reduce moisture build-up.
  • Movement compensation: Accommodates natural wood expansion and contraction.
  • Extends façade lifespan: Reduces stress on boards and fixings for longer-lasting performance.
  • Flexible & easy to install: Supplied in 4.5m rolls, cut to size and screwed in place as needed.

SIHGA’s timber fixing range gives you the best options for visible, invisible, aesthetic, and performance-oriented solutions.
